Swimmers had a fun meet at 2nd Labuan International Swimming Championship 2017

The 2nd Labuan International Swimming Championship has just ended last Sunday from 4th to 5th November, 2017 at Labuan International School. The meet was organised by Persatuan Akuatik Labuan.

Despite sending a small contingent of 15 swimmers and making the first debut in this championship, IBSC swimmers managed to clinch a  total of 5 gold, 4 silver and 6 bronze.

Our young and most promising swimmer, Muhammad Dhuha, once again lifted up the age group champion trophy for Group 5 Boys in this championship when he triumphed with 5 gold in 50m free, 50m back, 50m breast, 50m fly and 100m free. Along the way, he smashed the new meet records in all the 50m events. Dhuha was simply unstoppable. He grabbed another 2 silver in the team relay events under the Group 5 Boy with his team mates Ho Jia Xuen, Ahmad Jazeel Khalid and Adi Syafwan.

Muhammad Arif, 10, who made his first medal debut for individual events as he swam to silver in 50m back with a new PB of 36.86 (39.14) , bronze in 50m fly with new PB of 33.52 (35.14) and 100m fly with new PB of  1:24.23 (1:45.56).

“My success was due to hard work and guidance from my parents and coaches. But most importantly, I never give up after I had failed many times”, said Muhammad Arif.

Another pleasant surprise came from Nu’aim B. Nizarudin, 13, who was also made his first medal entry in an individual event after he procured a bronze in Boy Group 2 100m Breast with a new PB of 1:19.34 (1:21.00).

Our Group 3 Boy Breaststroker Harry Chong, bagged home 2 bronze in 50m and 100m breast and was totally elated with an unexpected silver in 50m free with an awesome new time of 27.94. Harry later helped the relay team took another bronze in the Mixed Age 4 x 50m free relay along with tema mates Nu’aim, Calvin Wong and Muhammad Arif.

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the winners and those who managed to seize the chance to improve their PBs in Labuan.

Many thanks to my Assistant Team Manager, En. Nizarudin and the parents who gave full support and cooperation to make this travel meet a successful and joyful one.

Cheers,
C.K.Wong
Team Manager
